Welcome to Yin Yang
Hello,
My name is Russell Kramer. Welcome to "Yin Yang" soul inspired images created from my deep communion with animals and nature. The Yin Yang symbol is famous for it's universal message of change and balance and the integration of the female with the male spirit into unified wholeness. The Dark Male has within it the smaller essence of the female, and the light female has the smaller dark essence of the male within her.
In a very real sense these images were directly inspired from a personal intimate communion with Whales, Dolphins, Seals and the changing cycles and scenery of nature such as the cycles of the sun and moon. In some pieces the Yin Yang symmetry is more evident in other cases it is not.

The Yin Yang series started from my experience with whales. Cape Cod was a second home growing up where my family spent the summers in Sandwich. I remember as a child wading on the beach and seeing a small squid change colors before my eyes to blend into the ocean bed behind it . From then on I knew the ocean was full of wonderful intelligent sentient beings and the ocean has always been a special place for me. It wasn't long before my first whale watching experience elicited a sense of wonder and spirit these magnificent creatures embody.
As a conscientious objector I was alarmed at the ongoing exploitation of whales and dolphins including in China and Japan. As an artist with an environmental activism view I thought about synthesizing the universal symbol of change and balance, yin yang with an image of a whale and to include the Japanese and Chinese translation of whale in the image using the ancient written script of kanji.
The yin yang symbol stems from these cultures and such an image synthesized with a whale speaks to the millions of Chinese and Japanese who oppose whaling. We all need to change including our views toward animals from commodity to sacred. Kanji is the ancient script used in China and Japan and with some of the earlier yin yang images these are included along with the English translation. Also included with many images are haikus, (a poetry form from Japan) complimenting the image.
From whales I extended this series to embrace many endangered species and then broader imagery as the yin yang applies to all areas of life and the spiritual is available to all in all walks of life. While these works of art are enjoyable to look at there is a very deep and profound message with each piece for those who wish to receive it.
As a way to get my message out I started Redfox Studio. Enjoy your trip through the Yin Yang gallery.
